Dr. Joan C. Oboite is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and a Family Nurse Practitioner in Maryland and Washington, D.C. She is the President of Our Shepherd Healthcare Center. She obtained her doctorate in Nursing practice degree with a certification in Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner from the University of Massachusetts Global, Irvine, California, in 2022.
She received her Master’s in Nursing degree / Family Nurse Practitioner from Howard University in Washington, D.C. in 2005. She received her Bachelor’s in Nursing degree from the University of the District of Columbia in Washington in 1987. Dr. Oboite started her nursing career 38 years ago as a Registered Nurse at Howard University Hospital in Washington, D.C. She has vast experience in complex roles over the years, starting as a staff nurse, clerical nurse, nurse manager, and then as a Nurse Practitioner.
She has worked in different settings from acute care hospitals, inpatient, outpatient ambulatory care surgery, long-term Rehabilitation facilities, to correctional facilities & Radiation Oncology. She has participated in many community health fairs in the DMV area and many medical mission trips abroad to Nigeria and one to Dublin, Ireland. Dr. Oboite’s quest for knowledge and her passion for holistic patient care, the prevalence of mental health disorders, the zeal for increased mental health awareness and accessibility, drove her to pursue a post-graduate certification in Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and the COVID-19 Pandemic. Dr. Oboite has worked as a Primary Care Provider since 2005. She is knowledgeable and qualified to evaluate, diagnose and treat a wide array of chronic medical illnesses, including mental health conditions from adolescent to older adults.
